3. Certification Categories
There are currently three application routes:
1. Type Approval has two forms:
2. Registration of Product Certification
Mandatory implementation date: Not yet announced. Applicable standards: EMI and safety.
3. Declaration of Conformity
Mandatory implementation date: January 18, 2002.
Applicable products: 19 types of IT equipment components.
Applicable standard: CNS 13438, EMC only.
For electrical and electronic products, the three application routes have the following characteristics:
1. Declaration of Conformity applies only to certain IT equipment components. Refer to BSMI's product descriptions.
2. Manufacturers choose between certification registration and type approval based on product costs.
3. Differences between certification registration and type approval:
(1) Inspection method:
Type-approved products receive simplified customer inspections.
For certification registration, there is no customer inspection; random market sampling tests are used.
