To strengthen the management of imported and domestically produced radio transmitting equipment, all such equipment exported to or manufactured in the People's Republic of China, including trial production, must obtain a Radio Transmission Equipment Type Approval Certificate from the national radio regulator following assessment of its transmission characteristics, except for micropower short-range devices. The type approval code (CMIIT ID) must appear on the equipment nameplate before sale. In practical terms, radio transmitting equipment may be sold and used domestically only when it bears China's type approval code.
1. Certification Overview

2. Certification Mark
None
3. Product Scope
1. Public mobile network equipment (2G/3G/4G/5G)
2. Private communications equipment, such as two-way radios, digital trunked radio systems and RFID devices
3. Wireless access equipment, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices
4. Broadcast transmitting equipment, such as radio and television transmitters
5. Radar equipment for weather, aviation, marine and automotive applications
6. Navigation equipment, including BeiDou, aviation and marine equipment
7. Satellite communications equipment
8. Other equipment
Except for the following two categories, radio transmitting equipment operating in the 2400 MHz, 5100 MHz and 5800 MHz bands requires SRRC certification and an application to the national radio regulator for type approval.
(1) Industrial, scientific and medical equipment that emits radio waves but is not radio communications equipment;
(2) General-purpose micropower short-range devices meeting Class F and Class G requirements in Announcement No. 52 of 2019.
4. Certification Requirements
China specifies frequency ranges for different categories of radio transmitting equipment, and not all frequencies may be used legally. Equipment sold or used within China must therefore operate within the designated ranges. Applicants should also check whether their equipment requires China Compulsory Certification (CCC) or a network access license (CTA) in addition to radio type approval. There is no special mark, only a type approval code (CMIIT ID).

6. Test Items
Test requirements vary with the product's transmit frequency. Principal test items include:
Power, frequency spectrum range, frequency tolerance, bandwidth and spurious emissions.
7. Required Documents
(1) Radio Transmission Equipment Type Approval Application Form;
(2) Radio Transmission Equipment Type Approval Letter of Commitment;
(3) Copy of the applicant's business license or public institution legal-person certificate, signed or stamped by the applicant. Overseas applicants must provide valid organizational registration documents, also signed or stamped;
(4) The designated representative must submit an authorization letter signed or stamped by the applicant and valid identification. The representative named in the application must match the authorized representative;
(5) Provide documentation of production capacity, technical capabilities and the quality management system for radio transmitting equipment. Domestic applicants with a quality management system certificate need only enter its number on the application form. Others, including those without certification, must submit a detailed description of technical and production capabilities and quality assurance arrangements, bearing the applicant's official company seal. Production capacity evidence must include at least the models and quantities of major production equipment or production lines, production plans, and relevant testing equipment or facilities. Applicants using contract manufacturers must provide the manufacturing agreement and the contractor's technical, production and quality assurance documentation. If voluntarily submitted mandatory, recommended or voluntary certificates demonstrate the required capabilities and quality system upon review, these application requirements may be simplified;
(6) Equipment instructions, technical manual, circuit diagrams relating to radio transmission and reception, block diagrams or schematics, and a list of critical RF components. The instructions must explain how the type approval code is displayed;
(7) For electronic display of the type approval code, provide instructions for viewing the code and the electronic label design. These must comply with MIIT's Notice on Electronic Display of Radio Transmission Equipment Type Approval Codes, MIIT Radio [2015] No. 211;
(8) One set of color photographs showing the equipment exterior, internal circuit boards and nameplate. Nameplate information must include the manufacturer, product model and type approval code marking design. Photographs must include a scale.
8. Certification Process
1. Apply online.
2. The Radio Administration Bureau accepts the application.
3. Conduct preliminary testing, confirm compliance and submit samples.
4. The SRRC-authorized laboratory receives and confirms the samples.
5. The authorized laboratory conducts testing. If testing fails, approval is denied; pay the laboratory and resubmit the application. The applicant pays the testing fee.
6. The authorized laboratory prepares the report and uploads it online.
7. The Radio Administration Bureau reviews the application.
8. A certificate is issued or approval is denied.
9. Submit sales evidence; MIIT pays the laboratory.

9. Certification Timeline & Validity
Certificate validity: 5 years.
10. Factory Inspection
Market surveillance sampling applies; no factory inspection is required.
11. Important Notes
1. Provide test procedures, methods, standards, conditions, connection block diagrams, dedicated test accessories and the latest test report for the equipment model. Copies of the report are acceptable.
2. If the equipment's transmit port uses a non-standard interface, provide the test connection cable and a written statement or chart of its attenuation values bearing the company seal.
3. If necessary, the applicant must send technical personnel to assist with testing.
4. If one submitted unit fails testing, a second sampling or additional sample submission is allowed. If two or more sampled units fail, no second sampling is permitted and the product is deemed noncompliant. If one or more units still fail the second test, the product is deemed noncompliant.
