INCM manages standardization, technical approval and type approval for radio and telecommunications equipment in Mozambique. Assessment addresses safety, electromagnetic emissions, protection of public communications networks and efficient spectrum use. Approved equipment receives a document stating the brand, model, technical characteristics and restrictions and must use the required identification. Changes to approved technical characteristics may affect approval and must follow the authority's procedures.
1. Certification Overview
Mozambique's National Communications Institute (INCM) announced an operating license for the US internet service provider Starlink. INCM said the license would bring significant benefits to Mozambique's information and communications technology ecosystem, with Starlink data services complementing existing market offerings rather than replacing current technologies.
SpaceX stated that most satellite internet services rely on satellites orbiting about 35,000 km above Earth, while Starlink's constellation is much closer, at approximately 550 km, reducing data transmission time between users and satellites.
SpaceX's satellite internet pilot is currently available in 16 countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Poland and Portugal.
