I. Introduction to Sri Lanka TRCSL Certification

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) was established under the Sri Lanka Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996.

TRCSL radio type approval is mandatory for telecommunications and radio equipment marketed in Sri Lanka. Approval is regulated by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.

II. Products Covered by TRCSL Certification

Radio and telecommunications terminal products intended for import, sale, manufacture or use in Sri Lanka require type approval before import, operation or sale. Covered terminal equipment includes telephones, mobile phones, fax machines, PABX systems, modems, routers, laptops and any other equipment that can connect to a licensed network.

III. TRCSL Certification Procedures

There are two certification procedures:

Standard Type Approval: Products not previously registered with TRCSL must use the standard procedure.

Simplified Type Approval: Products already registered with TRCSL may use the simplified procedure. Products requiring certificate extension are currently understood to follow this route.

The authority requires 1–2 samples at submission, subject to prior approval. The new procedure took effect on December 16, 2020, and certificates not yet issued before that date follow the new procedure. Certificates issued under the old regulations become invalid after June 16, 2021, requiring a new application under the updated rules.

4. User manual
5. Laboratory reports for EMC, RF, safety and health testing
6. Circuit diagrams
7. Printed circuit board layout
8. Equipment photographs
9. One equipment sample
